Learning how to take great and professional photographs is not all you need to land wedding photography gigs. You need to promote yourself and find ways by which people can locate you, so they can hire you. Getting wedding photography jobs is not easy, especially for amateurs, so you need to be on your toes to be able to compete with hundreds of highly trained and experienced photographers. Get The Right Equipment
The first thing to do is for you to get a single lens camera and other accessories. Without this equipment, it will be impossible to present yourself as a wedding photographer. Apart from the camera, you’ll also need to have extra lens, tripod and a computer system with enough storage to contain your work. Don’t take any wedding photography job until have good equipment that won’t kill your reputation.
Create A Portfolio
It will be difficult for anyone to make up their minds to hire you if they’ve not seen what you have done in the past. This is why you need to create a portfolio for yourself to display what you can offer as a wedding photographer. Creating a portfolio might be difficult as a beginner. This should happen even before you do your first job. In this modern time people don’t have the time to contact tons of photographers for interviews, they prefer to look you up on your website, check if you meet their projections, make a very short list and then contact you and a few others. Your website should contain all your contact information for people to get to you when they require your services. Having a website also presents you as a professional and it’s an opportunity for you to present yourself better than you really are; cool graphic design and presentation can help you achieve that. If you do a bit of local SEO on your website then people will find you through search engine result; that’s the cheapest and easiest way to get new clients.
Business Cards Are Essential
Once you have your website ready the next thing is to print your business card that must contain your business name, your name, website address and contact information. Don’t just have a couple of them in your purse or pocket for distribution when someone asks for them. Look out for wedding related outlets and centers like bridal stores and drop a couple of your business cards with them.
Use social media
People log into their social network profiles and pages every day, so it’s a great way to promote yourself. Create a business page for your business on your page and post some of your works and other interesting samples there for people to view and enjoy. If people love your presentation, they will definitely refer you to close relatives and friends.
Advertise your business on blogs and other social media platforms, as much as you can get your hands on. Contact previous clients reminding them to refer you to friends and family members who may be having a wedding event. Make friends with wedding planners and show them your portfolio, they always get jobs and will surely hire or recommend you if they think your work okay.
