Contemporary Poster Design #5

Hello and welcome to our contemporary poster design series!

Did you know?

The film industry quickly discovered that vibrantly coloured posters were an easy way to sell their pictures. Today, posters are produced for most major films, and the collecting of movie posters has become a major hobby. The record price for a poster was set on November 15, 2005 when US$690,000 was paid for a poster of Fritz Lang’s 1927 film Metropolis from the Reel Poster Gallery in London.

Other early horror and science fiction posters are known to bring tremendous prices as well, with an example from The Mummy realizing $452,000 in a 1997 Sotheby’s auction, and posters from both The Black Cat and Bride of Frankenstein selling for $334,600 in various Heritage Auctions. The 1931 Frankenstein 6-sheet poster, of which only 1 copy is known to exist, is considered to be the most valuable film poster in the world.

Let’s get back to today and have a look at today’s selection of  posters. Coming to us from Simon C Page, Stefano Joker Lionetti and Thomas Kuriatko! Let’s enjoy their works!!

Hope you enjoyed today’s selection of posters as much as i did finding them! See you next time!

Damien-Vassart→Paris-in-Black-and-White6-featured

The amazing BW photography of Damien Vassart

Today we have with us 20 amazing black and white photographs by Damien Vassart.

“Born in 1984 in Belgium, and holder of an Audio Engineer diploma, Damien Vassart has always been responsive to art, in all its ways. During his youth, he particularly involved himself into drawing and playing music.

In 2007, photography became a new expression medium for him. His preference goes to black and white, although color also owns a place in his universe. Cityscapes and waterscapes have become his predilection themes, skillfully highlighted in surrealist pictures, inviting the observer to contemplation and meditation.

Beyond a simple aesthetic side, the art of Damien Vassart is also driven by his fascination for passing time, and impacts it has upon the natural and non-natural elements that make part of the world surrounding us. So as to transcribe that, he uses extended exposure times for his takes, most of the time released at dawn or at dusk, moments of transition, moments of switching from one state to another, between agitation and tranquility, that he considers as the most propitious to capture the time.

His pictures have already been published several times in magazines and across the Web, and permitted him to win several international awards. They are diffused around the world by various art distribution networks.”

Let’s see our selection and of course you can visit and see more of his work in his Behance portfolio!

Historical Poster Designs

According to French historian Max Gallo, “for over two hundred years, posters have been displayed in public places all over the world. Visually striking, they have been designed to attract the attention of passers-by, making us aware of a political viewpoint, enticing us to attend specific events, or encouraging us to purchase a particular product or service.” Read more

Alexander Semenov→Octopus Kingdom17

The amazing sea life photography of Alexander Semenov

Today we have with as a stunning selection of underwater sea life photography by Alexander Semenov!

It never cease to amaze me how many wonderful things in nature remain hidden from our eyes. And how many beautiful things yet remain to be discovered! And you will be surprised on how many of those are hidden in the depths of the oceans!

The amazing sea life photography of Alexander Semenov

The amazing sea life photography of Alexander Semenov

But before we get started with viewing today’s selections let’s meet Alexander.

” In 2007, I graduated from Lomonosov’s Moscow State University in the department of Zoology. I specialized in the study of invertebrate animals, with an emphasis on squid brains. Soon after, I began working at the White Sea Biological Station (WSBS) as a senior laborer. WSBS has a dive station, which is great for all sorts of underwater scientific needs, and after 4 years working there, I became chief of our diving team. I now organize all WSBS underwater projects and dive by myself with a great pleasure and always with a camera.

When I first began to experiment with sea life photography I tried shooting small invertebrates for fun with my own old dslr camera and without any professional lights or lenses. I collected the invertebrates under water and then I’ve shot them in the lab. After two or three months of failure after failure I ended up with a few good pictures, which I’ve showed to the crew. It has inspired us to buy a semi-professional camera complete with underwater housing and strobes. Thus I’ve spent the following field season trying to shoot the same creatures, but this time in their environment. It was much more difficult, and I spent another two months without any significant results. But when you’re working at something every day, you inevitably get a lot of experience. Eventually I began to get interesting photos — one or two from each dive. Now after four years of practice I get a few good shots almost every time I dive but I still have a lot of things that need to be mastered in underwater photography.

And the most important thing — I love Sea.”

-Alexander Semenov

With no further ado let’s enjoy his awesome photographs!

Amazing Fantasy and SciFi Art by Miroslav Petrov

Amazing Fantasy and SciFi Art by Miroslav Petrov

” Somewhere between socialism and something else, in the very begining of the upcoming long and cold winter in 1985 was born Miroslav with a marvellous for the time almost 5 kilograms weight.

The creation of Miro:

Till the age of 8-9 the primary observation from teachers was to accept Miro as infant prodigy, BUT some years elapsed and they found that they are and were terribly wrong. For the biggest regret mostly for Miroslav, he didn’t evolve at all from then… the facts tell that it is either because of PC games or the invading age of the naked women on the home screen…
I’ve been drawing since the age of 16-17. I was playing games for more than 10 hours a day when suddenly my biggest inspiration came from Warcraft 3. Samwise and his art team inspired me to start pushing the pencil very hard. After lots of long, painful nights of hard work and skills improvement I decided to step into digital art. I was hired as a concept and texture artist at mastheadstudios.net. I still work there on an ambitious projects and search for fresh ideas… and women. ”

Let’s now enjoy his cool paintings! And remember that you can find much more at his Behance portfolio!

Contemporary poster design #2

Contemporary Poster Design #2

Hello and welcome to our contemporary poster design series! Today we have a stunning selection of 24 posters coming to us from Atelier Martino&Jaña, Diego L. Rodríguez, Francois Hoang & Grzegorz Domaradzki! So lets enjoy their works!

Did you know?

By the 1890s, the technique had spread throughout Europe. A number of noted French artists created poster art in this period, foremost amongst them Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Jules Chéret, Eugène Grasset, Adolphe Willette, Pierre Bonnard, Louis Anguetin, Georges de Feure and Henri Gabriel Ibels. Chéret is considered to be the “father” of advertisement placards. He was a pencil artist and a scene decorator, who founded a small lithography office in Paris in 1866. He used striking characters, contrast and bright colours, and created over 1000 advertisements, primarily for exhibitions, theatres, and products. The industry soon attracted the service of many aspiring painters who needed a source of revenue to support themselves.

Hope you enjoyed the selected designs! Looking forward to hear which were your favourites! See you next time!
