Historical Poster Designs

According to French historian Max Gallo, “for over two hundred years, posters have been displayed in public places all over the world. Visually striking, they have been designed to attract the attention of passers-by, making us aware of a political viewpoint, enticing us to attend specific events, or encouraging us to purchase a particular product or service.” Read more

Alexander Semenov→Octopus Kingdom17

The amazing sea life photography of Alexander Semenov

Today we have with as a stunning selection of underwater sea life photography by Alexander Semenov!

It never cease to amaze me how many wonderful things in nature remain hidden from our eyes. And how many beautiful things yet remain to be discovered! And you will be surprised on how many of those are hidden in the depths of the oceans!

The amazing sea life photography of Alexander Semenov

The amazing sea life photography of Alexander Semenov

But before we get started with viewing today’s selections let’s meet Alexander.

” In 2007, I graduated from Lomonosov’s Moscow State University in the department of Zoology. I specialized in the study of invertebrate animals, with an emphasis on squid brains. Soon after, I began working at the White Sea Biological Station (WSBS) as a senior laborer. WSBS has a dive station, which is great for all sorts of underwater scientific needs, and after 4 years working there, I became chief of our diving team. I now organize all WSBS underwater projects and dive by myself with a great pleasure and always with a camera.

When I first began to experiment with sea life photography I tried shooting small invertebrates for fun with my own old dslr camera and without any professional lights or lenses. I collected the invertebrates under water and then I’ve shot them in the lab. After two or three months of failure after failure I ended up with a few good pictures, which I’ve showed to the crew. It has inspired us to buy a semi-professional camera complete with underwater housing and strobes. Thus I’ve spent the following field season trying to shoot the same creatures, but this time in their environment. It was much more difficult, and I spent another two months without any significant results. But when you’re working at something every day, you inevitably get a lot of experience. Eventually I began to get interesting photos — one or two from each dive. Now after four years of practice I get a few good shots almost every time I dive but I still have a lot of things that need to be mastered in underwater photography.

And the most important thing — I love Sea.”

-Alexander Semenov

Amazing Fantasy and SciFi Art by Miroslav Petrov

Amazing Fantasy and SciFi Art by Miroslav Petrov

” Somewhere between socialism and something else, in the very begining of the upcoming long and cold winter in 1985 was born Miroslav with a marvellous for the time almost 5 kilograms weight.

The creation of Miro:

Till the age of 8-9 the primary observation from teachers was to accept Miro as infant prodigy, BUT some years elapsed and they found that they are and were terribly wrong. For the biggest regret mostly for Miroslav, he didn’t evolve at all from then… the facts tell that it is either because of PC games or the invading age of the naked women on the home screen…
I’ve been drawing since the age of 16-17. I was playing games for more than 10 hours a day when suddenly my biggest inspiration came from Warcraft 3. Samwise and his art team inspired me to start pushing the pencil very hard. After lots of long, painful nights of hard work and skills improvement I decided to step into digital art. I was hired as a concept and texture artist at mastheadstudios.net. I still work there on an ambitious projects and search for fresh ideas… and women. ”

Let’s now enjoy his cool paintings! And remember that you can find much more at his Behance portfolio!

Hope you enjoyed today’s article! Looking forward to hear which one is your favourite! See you next time!

Contemporary poster design #2

Contemporary Poster Design #2

Hello and welcome to our contemporary poster design series! Today we have a stunning selection of 24 posters coming to us from Atelier Martino&Jaña, Diego L. Rodríguez, Francois Hoang & Grzegorz Domaradzki! So lets enjoy their works!

Did you know?

By the 1890s, the technique had spread throughout Europe. A number of noted French artists created poster art in this period, foremost amongst them Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Jules Chéret, Eugène Grasset, Adolphe Willette, Pierre Bonnard, Louis Anguetin, Georges de Feure and Henri Gabriel Ibels. Chéret is considered to be the “father” of advertisement placards. He was a pencil artist and a scene decorator, who founded a small lithography office in Paris in 1866. He used striking characters, contrast and bright colours, and created over 1000 advertisements, primarily for exhibitions, theatres, and products. The industry soon attracted the service of many aspiring painters who needed a source of revenue to support themselves.

Hope you enjoyed the selected designs! Looking forward to hear which were your favourites! See you next time!

Stunning Sunsets and Silhouette photography

Silhouette is one of the words, that i am thankful when i have to write on the computer. Since i can employ my trusted spelling checker, to always correct the misspelled word! It is also one of the most stunning photography types.

silhouette is the image of a person, an object or scene represented as a solid shape of a single color, usually black, its edges matching the outline of the subject. The interior of a silhouette is basically featureless, and the whole is typically presented on a light background, usually white, or none at all. The silhouette differs from an outline which depicts the edge of an object in a linear form, while a silhouette appears as a solid shape. Silhouette images may be created in any visual artistic media.

For today we’ll focus on silhouette photography during sunset and also include some stunning sunsets by themselves. The images are coming from us from several talented photographers from Flickr. So let’s enjoy their awesome works!

Best Beach Houses Around the World

A beach house is the epitome of relaxation and serenity; days spent basking in the sun’s rays, the lulling quality of the waves, and lazy evenings on ocean-facing decks make them a destination like no other. To feed your escapist fantasies, we’ve travelled the world over to put together a short list of some of the most luxurious beach homes.

The Exumas in the Bahamas

This island compound is made up of five separate dwellings, situated on almost thirty-eight acres. The manor house, harbourmaster’s quarters, beach and guest cottages can more than comfortably accommodate twenty-two guests, with room for another twenty-nine in the buildings of the staff village (butler’s and chef’s quarters, pilot lounge, bunkhouse, domestic staff housing and engineer’s cottage). Other amenities include a water treatment facility, workshop, self-contained power system, heliport, lighthouse, warehouse, service vehicles and full data/phone systems. If the turquoise waters of the Bahamas aren’t enough for you, there’s also a waterslide which descends into a beautiful swimming pool.

Steel Point Villa, the Virgin Islands

This jewel of the Virgin Islands is nestled on a rocky headland, and it boasts a 360° view on eight acres. The main house is over 3100 square feet in size; it includes five luxurious suites and multiple decks (including one with its own swimming pool). Steel Point Villa also has three other dwellings, including Gestalt, a large Mediterranean villa complete with its own pool.

Livorno, Italy

This is one of the smallest homes on the list, and when it was listed for sale, you had to apply to get a price. The home is situated on park land, meaning that it’s protected and no one else can build on the property, thereby keeping the beautiful view completely clear. The small gated cottage is quite comfortable, with a summery kitchen and a terrace perfect for dining al fresco.

Lorient Bay in St. Barts

This contemporary and stylish beach house is perfectly set on a half-acre of Caribbean land. It’s surrounded by a spacious sun deck, which is dotted with infinity pools that lead out to the ocean. Four of the home’s bedrooms (each with its own bath) are close to the decks, and the master suite is set into the garden at the rear of the house.

Azura Castle, Grenada

This is one of the most colourful beach houses in the world. It’s painted in shades of green, pink, red, blue and yellow, which is beautifully complemented by the aquamarine waters of the Caribbean. Azzura Castle has five suites and a turret apartment with a roof terrace; there’s also a turreted guest house. If you like to soak in the gentle breezes and the midday sun, this is the place to be.

There are a lot of pristine beaches in the world, each one more serene than the one before. Beach houses are a wonderful way to enjoy the relaxing feeling of having your toes in the sand—with all the comforts of home mere steps away.

Florian-NICOLLE→illustrations-2011

Amazing Illustrations by Florian Nicolle

Today we have with us some of the amazing illustrations of Florian Nicolle that she made between 2009 – 2011. Florian Nicolle (aka neo), is a  25 years old graphic designer and illustrator from France. Her clients include Puma, Los Angeles Times, ESPN classic, NIKE, Warner Bros, KHL, Hachette livre. You can find more of her work in her portfolio at Behance.

As you will see her style is very fresh and unique and as she describes it:

I try to create an image that retains its freshness of the first paint stroke, the expressions of the line have to be very free and spontaneous. While keeping a rigorous drawing. So i use fast techniques, like a bic, large brush, watercolor and chines ink.

Hope you enjoyed today’s article! Looking forward to hear which one is your favourite! See you next time!
