Responsive Web or Blog Design

With responsive design, it simply means that the blog or web layout will appear good on all screen sizes. Because there has been a huge development in mobile web, tablets, smart phones and other mobile devices have become the commonly used tools for web surfing. Since these tools have different formats, the traditional web design requires separate coding for each different device and screen size. It means a lot of time wastage by designers and web developers and very less flexibility. Responsive design, on the other hand, means a single code set can adapt to all devices, cutting down costs and time, and permitting the designers to focus on visual layout and user interface only.

Minimalist Logo Design

Last year, many large companies refurbished their logo designs to make them cleaner and simpler than before. In future also, the companies are expected to follow this trend.

Full Page Backgrounds and Single Page Layouts

It has now become very easy to develop single page site having consistent outcome and little processing power. This has become possible with the introduction of HTML 5. The trend is expected to be followed greatly in 2013, with full page image backgrounds loading in very less time. Here, the principle followed is – No commotion, no muss, only the important and relevant information at hand.

Logo Color Predictions

In 2013, the rich and muted colors like deep purple & brick red will be popular at the front, in combination with bright neon. Water color will also be one of the popular trends this year.

Nature Logos

The trend of integrating natural themes in the logo designs is becoming more popular now. Spirals, curls and swirls are some sub-trends. In 2013, the trend will be to create a logo with typography imitating vines, tree branches, leaves wrapping, etc.

Big Buttons

Nowadays, a large percentage of populace is using touch-screen devices. Thus, big buttons will be greatly used in the year 2013, not as an option but as a necessity.

More Unusual Shapes of Logos

Earlier, the logos were designed using the basic shapes such as circle, square or occasionally triangle. However, now the trend has changed. Now, the people like to use multi-sided shapes for their logos.

Moiré Patterns

Moiré is becoming one of the popular ways of branding a logo. Moiré patterns are a type of optical illusions which are created by colliding and converging grid-like patterns. They are becoming more popular in the field of identity and branding design.

Retro / Script Fonts

This trend of logo design has been used over the years and will be used at least in the near future. These fonts always appeal the viewers because they have a touch of fun along with classic aesthetic. The resulting logo is beautiful and emphasizes the tastiness of the product inside the package.

In the year 2013, almost every company will be following some of these trends to create a logo.

I totally agree with your trend suggestion of “Retro / Script Fonts”. I know that when I see them I’m much more likely to purchase the item. The same goes for websites that utilize retro fonts, I’ll stay on them and poke around much longer than other sites that use a run-of-the-mill font.

Thanks for sharing your valuable opinion Amy. I am glad you liked it. I agree with the point you made here about user behavior and response to retro fonts.

Ah! This is indeed very informative and I am proud to say in my design endeavors I have been following these particular trends by nature based on inspiration research. I never really broke down why… but this kind of does that. Large buttons are something that I like to incorporate, but something that I really, really need to get into to become more successful is effective responsive design. I know technically how to do it, in theory but haven’t become to comprehensive on it yet. I’m excited to get into it this year. Thank you for this post.
