How to Make Your Own Car Air Freshener
A lot of people tend to treat their cars as if they were their second home. They eat in them, leave garbage there and throw things in the trunk when they are not sure if they will ever need or use them. In case you fall into this description, you will have to change your attitude a little. Why not treat your vehicle a little? The first step to this could be freshing up the car’s interior a little bit. Make it smell less like an ashtray and more like a flower garden. Or whatever you would like it to smell like. Do this by making a DIY car air freshener. This way you can choose not only the shape, but also the fragrance of the freshener. This is how you do it:
Choose the shape
First of all, you will need the base. Or in other words, the shape you want your freshener to be. The classic one is a tree, but you can get this one anywhere. Pick an image you like or even someone’s name. Just be sure the shape is not too big.
Cutting and sticking
Draw a template of the design you have chosen on a piece of cardboard. Do the same with a piece of cloth. Instead of buying fabric, you can use an old piece of clothing you don’t already need and don’t mind cutting a piece off. You will need two pieces of cloth that are exactly the same, as you will be gluing them on both sides of the cardboard. Use some sort of removable superglue to stick the cloth to the cardboard with. In case you would like to add more personality to your air freshener, print out a certain image to stick to it. It could be a favorite video game character of yours, superhero, or a picture of your significant other. The choice is up to you. Still, don’t lose the piece of fabric, as it will be absorbing the essential oil. Be sure to leave a small rectangle at the top of the freshener so that you could punch a hole there.
Choose the scent
Once the fabric is glued down, leave it awhile until the glue is completely dry. Proceed by taking your favorite essential oil and dropping not more than ten drops on each side. Don’t go too far with it, as it’s a pretty strong stuff. The good thing about going DIY with the air freshener is that you get to pick whichever scent you like. Once you’ve done that too, leave it to dry.
Almost done
Get a hole punch in order to punch a hole in the top of the air freshener. Be careful to do this right, otherwise your air freshener might not hang properly. Take a piece of twine or string and thread it through the hole. Now it is ready to be hanged on your mirror. Just be sure it doesn’t obscure your view.
Top up the scent
One of the best things about the DIY project of air freshener is that it is reusable. You won’t have to throw it away once its aroma wears off. Simply detach it from the mirror and top it up with a bit more oil. This way, it can last for a couple of months.
