Why Photography and Creativity Helps Alleviate Stress

Photography and other creative pursuits are excellent ways to draw yourself out from stress and depression. It allows you an outlet where you can pour your emotions and channel it into positive ways. Using photography and other creative ways will help your mind to open up to beauty that was left unrealized because of depression and stress. Here are some of the things that you can do to cope with stress which can make you live better.

Photography makes you go out into the world

When you pursue photography you would seek locations that would serve your projects. Often-times you end up travelling to places where you can do some photography. Leaving your comfort zone allows you to reach out to the world and seek a release from the anxiety that you feel. A change of location can sometimes work wonders from a person suffering from a bout of depression. What a better way to go out into the world at the same time release your creative kraken.

Creativity gives you an opportunity to be with other people

Quilting is another way of releasing stress. Joining quilting groups on a conference allows you to take your mind off the things that depress you. It allows you to focus on the task at hand and at the same time gives you a sense of fulfilment and achievement. There is no better way to get those creative juices flowing by keeping your hands busy and making a statement through quilts. You can produce more quilted items as many as you can since you can sell these anyway and help augment your income.

Photography makes you view nature differently

Photography allows you to view nature not through ordinary eyes but through lenses. It allows shifting perception of nature that you don’t normally see. Seeing nature in a different form allows you to become more empowered and useful. It allows you to be more comfortable and less stressed. You will find that depression would simply melt away as soon you see life quite differently though a 35mm lens.  Seeing the beauty of everything that surrounds you will help you avert any symptoms of stress, anxiety or depression. Your mind will then be filled with positive and beautiful thoughts thus leaving no room for anxiety to grow inside your head.

Photography makes you preserve who you are

You don’t have to be an expert photographer to have pictures that you can include in a scrapbook. It only takes an open mind focused to bring the positives and bury the negatives. Scrapbooking is a good way to spend time with family and try to preserve history with people you care about. The camaraderie will help you alleviate the anxiety brought about by stress.

Photography makes you feel important

People that get pleasure from your photographs give you a sense of importance that is very crucial for your self-esteem. When people compliment your work you feel a sense that you are needed in the world. You will have this high regard about yourself because you know that there is something about you that people appreciate very much.  Thus, anxiety, stress and depression will cease to exacerbate.

Photography alters your perception of beauty

Through your photographs you see beauty differently that adds a dimension to your humanity. This is important to lift your spirits up when you are depressed. It may release more chemicals on your brain which is lacking when you are down and depressed. A person who knows the principles of photography will definitely find beauty in everything that exists.  The same is true even to those things that seem ordinary, plain and boring to other people.  With photography, it becomes inevitable for you to look for that perfect angle of every subject that you choose to take some pictures.

Inspiration comes in different ways. You can get a change in outlook in life and a paradigm shift in perception when you dabble more on things that display your creativity  such as photography. The world suddenly changes and you cope well against stress and anxiety when you engage in photography and other creative pursuits.
