Many people have long said that if you want to become successful in a given industry it is a combination of knowing the right people along with an ample supply of preparation. Breaking into the art industry is no different. That is why hosting your own art event can be monumental to networking.
Internet Success or Merely a Block
There have been many artists that have been able to accomplish a certain degree of notoriety through managing a vast social network. The bottom-line is that there is a lot of extra time and effort that goes into putting yourself out there through Facebook, Twitter and of course Pinterest. Throw into the mix the continual growth of Instagram and you can see that it is now easier than ever to market your product through these avenues.
While they may not cost a single thing they do however require a large amount of time that is ultimately pulling you away from working on your craft. Finding a balance between technology and your artwork is important but it does not necessarily have to be the only means of you being able to get your work out there.
Starving Artist No Longer
We have all heard the familiar saying about being a starving artist. While this is sort of an amusing way to not become discouraged with lack of sales, it does not have to be your everyday life. There is plenty of room in the economic sphere for new artists to step out of the shadows and begin to make a certain degree of income from their work.
Naturally one of the first shifts necessary in your self-awareness is realizing that you are capable and worthy of achieving success. So take a moment and validate your self-worth. If you’re anything like most of the artists out there you probably exhibit a high amount of self-criticism.
Realising the time that you spend on your work actually carries monetary value is an important part of generating the flow of money that will begin to put food on the table. So if you doubt yourself, quit it. You have to believe in yourself first.
Now that you know you are worth it
So let’s say that you now are fully comfortable with beginning to make it as an artist. There could be many different avenues which you might feel are necessary to get you to your end goal of being completely independent. While some argue that you need to go to University in order to become successful there are many things of which that notion overlooks.
The greatest thing about schooling, of any kind, is that it helps give you a certain array of tools to help you. However, once you are finished, there will be nobody standing over your shoulder telling you to work. You are going to need to find the constant motivation and determination on your own free will.
Let’s Say you’ve got that too
First off let me just say that I’m not trying to diminish higher education at the University level. Just remember that it doesn’t stop there. Continually evolving and honing your craft is going to be a progressive adventure. Once you have reached a certain level where you have enough pieces of work to show the next step is to actually show it. While you could strive to get into a local gallery you can still be left to the criticism of a singular person or small group as to whether or not you will be accepted. Instead of relying on the hopes of being accepted I propose a much broader sense of duty and personal integrity: host your own art opening.
Be the One People Remember
Don’t worry about the money. If you want to get everything organised right now look into applying for instant payday loans; that way you can get the extra resources to help you plan the event you want. It doesn’t have to be something huge: remember that.
Many warehouse spaces will let you rent out the space for an evening. You could then enlist friends to help you with light catering and bartending. One of the more important things to spend some extra cash on is advertising. You want to make sure you get the word out there. Perhaps instead of sending your work off to galleries for acceptance, you send the head of each respective organisation an invite to your premiere.
The exciting thing about approaching the publicity of your artwork this way is that you are going to get the opportunity to meet people face to face. While it’s clear that many utilise social media for the artwork nothing can help you get your work out there better than actual socialising.
If you are an introvert and the idea shocks you completely perhaps with some of the extra money from the instant payday loan you could enlist a band or some sort of entertainment to help take the focus directly off of you. Don’t be worried. People will still remember the awesome party and your super cool work. Just make sure you exchange your contact information. Business cards, fliers, and even hand written notes are a nice way to make sure people don’t forget you.
